The 2025 Vision: Swift, Smart, and Sustainable Supply Chains

In the January issue of the Indian magazine CARGOCONNECT  the head of Russian Railways Logistics JSC shared his vision for the next logistics year.

Out of turbulence into new opportunities – logistics is entering 2025 stronger and more sustainable.



Intermodality in focus

The strength of modern logistics lies in intermodality and this trend will definitely get impulse in 2025. In current geopolitical reality and in the framework of interaction between all modes of transport railway has taken additional volume of cargo and proved to be a significant element of international logistics chains. Formation of intermodal routes is a particular type of art, the value of which nowadays has multiplied.

Enterprises from different industries aspire to intertwine production process and logistics; they find it crucial for logistics chains to stay seamless starting from the facility territory up to the door of a final consumer. Multimodal routes are harder to organize, but they significantly expand the opportunities for cargo delivery and will remain the driving force of logistics in the new year.

Digitalization

Logistics processes are actively moving to digital field, solving such issues as speeding up the delivery and optimizing the expenses of clients on their products transportation. 2025 is very promising in this respect.

Market of railway transportation on certain directions has already stepped into the era of automatic process of customs clearance and is steadily moving to paperless document flow and single digital space for all participants of the transportation process from different countries.

Today it is especially important for logistics companies to expand their international presence and actively interact with other participants of the market. Such approach is a clue to effective and seamless transport logistics services. 

Flexible logistics

Particular features of logistics in 2025 will include flexibility and willingness to adapt quickly to consigners’ needs. Transition period for the industry is over, transport services has already adapted for new economic realities, while challenges caused by geopolitical turbulence turned to growth areas. Even on new routes and directions, transport logistics market stays highly competitive – importers and exporters can choose which partner to cooperate with and what transport to use for the delivery. 

Analyzing the perspectives of logistics in the new year, we cannot but mention the role of the International North-South Transport Corridor. Particular efforts of Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran are concentrated on the development of the Eastern route of the corridor, which is aimed at the increase of trade turnover with India. Common tasks include comfort, through tariffs and modernization of transport infrastructure considering the increasing level of cargo containerization.
 
In conclusion, there is no doubt that main logistics trends in 2025 will include acceleration of delivery, diversification of routes and even more effective cooperation between all modes of transport for the benefit of consigners.
