Russian Railways' collaboration with partners from the EAEU, SCO, and BRICS has emerged as a key topic of the Eastern Economic Forum's business program.

At the session "Cooperation in Greater Eurasia: Experience in Developing Production Chains of the EAEU, SCO, BRICS," Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways, reported that in 2023, international cargo traffic via Russian Railways reached 551 million tons. In the first eight months of this year, trade turnover with BRICS countries reached 195 million tons, with a significant portion attributed to China, the UAE, and India.

 

"This year, Iran, Ethiopia and Egypt joined the ranks of BRICS participants in addition to the UAE. The results are already evident in numbers. Traffic from the UAE has surged over 20%, with over a quarter of this volume passing through Far East ports.

 

The same period also saw record figures of 73.5 million tons along the routes connecting EAEU countries.

 

Infrastructure creation and modernization enhance logistics chain development. Russian Railways implements the investment project "Development of infrastructure of railway checkpoints". The holding company is building a 1,435 mm gauge track at the Zabaikalsk – Manchuria border crossing and Zabaikalsk station. Container transportation began at the Nizhneleninskoye-Tongjiang bridge border crossing, which opened in 2022. Initially limited to exports from Russia to China, it is now also utilized for imports.
