The production center was launched at the site of the Maratvad Carriage Works in Latour. The plant was built in 2018-2020 by order of the Indian Railways. The partner of the project was Transmashholding At the moment, the site is being re-equipped. It is expected to equip the production with a modern assembly line, including bodywork, warehouse, assembly, testing, trolley and painting shops. The length of internal railways will be 8.6 km.
Last year, the TMH-led consortium won an international tender for the development, production, and 35-year service of 1,920 cars of Vande Bharat long-distance electric trains for the needs of Indian Railways. The total value of the contract is $6.5 billion, it was concluded in September 2023. As part of the contract, it is also planned to modernize production, launch an engineering center and three service depots in different cities to service technics
The first two prototypes of trains should be ready in the fall of 2025. According to the contract, 120 trains will be delivered in the next three years.
The trains will be equipped with additional noise insulation, modern automatic doors with touch controls, sealed inter-car passages, as well as sleeping berths and toilets for people with disabilities.
